Welcome

We welcome the 2010 Ontario Senior Games - Actifest to the friendly City of Oshawa on August 10 - 12, 2010. This is a city with a proud history of sports activity and grass roots involvement. It is in this spirit we feel privileged to welcome the participants who have earned their place in the Ontario Senior Summer Games of 2010. Oshawa will be host to more than 1200 visitors including; top 55 + senior competitors, coaches, officials and VIP’s from across Ontario. We welcome you, your families and friends to join the fun and celebration. Our red carpet has been dusted off in preparation of your arrival.

You will find this city a vibrant and interesting part of the GTA. We are home to the headquarters of General Motors of Canada, but we are more than the industrial city by which we are identified. We are a diversified community of well-groomed residential areas and a rich commercial, educational, medical, recreational and cultural centre. The City of Oshawa’s slogan is ‘Prepare To Be Amazed’ - let our Games Organizing Committee amaze you!

This is a week for the senior citizens of Ontario. Oshawa is proud of the role our seniors play in this community. The Oshawa Senior Citizens Centres are second to none with a enrolment of over 6000 members who are involved in many and varied activities. It is this segment of our population in particular that are thrilled to make these Games a pleasurable and exciting event full of warm memories that will remain with you. That is our goal.

We have prepared wonderful accommodations for you in Athletes Village at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Durham College, close to where many of the events are located. All our venues are modern and comfortable with all the requirements you will need for friendly competition.

As Chair of our Organizing Committee, I most heartily welcome you to our City of Oshawa. I believe, live and promote the Actifest 2010 motto – ‘Achieving Through Active Living’. On August 10 - 12, 2010 come and share in the spirit.
