Historical Attractions
The Robert Mclaughlin Gallery - This magnificent art gallery is home to nearly 3,000 art masterpieces done by Canadian Artists. A large majority of these paintings com from the group of artists referred to as the 'Painter's Eleven'. The gallery was first introduced in 1967 and can have up to six specific art exhibitions going on at any time throughout the year. This attraction is one that defines the historic culture of Oshawa.
The Canadian Automotive Museum - This attraction is one that belongs in the City of Oshawa. It displays over 70 different cars that are arranged in a 1920's car dealership type layout. Created in 1961 by a group of Oshawa businessmen; the main purpose of creating this historical landmark was to document the rich automobile history in Canada while providing both an excellent educational and entertaining experience. Due to Oshawa's rich automobile history this attraction is truly a must see when staying in or simply dropping by the City of Oshawa.
Parkwood: The R.S Mclaughlin Estate - This historic attraction is one that cannot be missed. The former home of General Motors of Canada founder Colonel R. Samuel Mclaughlin; this attraction captures the history and spirit behind the automobile roots of the city. This fine estate contains arctitechural and landscape design from both the 1920's and 1930's and has been used as a backdrop in plenty of popular photography and feature films over the past two decades. It was originally the family home of the Mclaughlin's from 1917 until 1972 and remained secluded until it was named a National Historic Site in 1989. To this day it remains an extreme source of pride for the community.
World Class Sports Facilities
General Motor's Centre - A world-class sports facility located in the heart of downtown Oshawa; The General Motors Centre has played host to many major musical performances including The Tragically Hip, KISS, Bachman & Cummings and INXS as well as being the home arena for the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. The GM Centre holds approximately 5,400 pedestrians during a hockey game and upwards of 6,000 for other events such as musical concerts. This premiere sports and entertainment facility provides a first-class home for the Oshawa Generals and an ideal atmosphere for fans to cheer on their favourite sports teams and enjoy world-class concerts and events.
